He received his medical degree from Hacettepe University School of Medicine in 1989, where he also completed his residency in Ophthalmology. He accepted a faculty position as lecturer at Pamukkale University Medical Faculty Department of Eye Diseases in 1994. He served as the Deputy Chief Physician in Pamukkale University Training, Application and Research Hospital in 1994-1995. He then completed a fellowship in “Clinical and Research Fellowship in Pediatric Ophthalmology” at Washington University School of Medicine. He assumed the titles of Assistant Professor and Associate Professor in 2000. Prof.Yıldırım was the member and Vice President of Students for Specialty in Medicine Education and Training Coordination Committee in 19992001.
The Professor held Office as the Board Member of Genetic Engineering Biotechnology Research and Application Center.
Prof.Yıldırım is a member of numerous respected professional societies, including the American Academy of Ophthalmology, and Turkish Association of Ophthalmology.
Prof.Yıldırım has been considered an expert in Strabismus, and his reputation is based on his specializing in Retinal Diseases, Glaucoma, Excimer Laser and Femtosecond Laser Cataract Surgery.
